Just putting that in a white rounded rectangle would be self-evident and look good, I think. I think the "digital planet" concept is evocative, and it works nicely as a flat version as well. I agree that the globe motif is the most associative - the Nexus browser has my favorite. You can keep calling it Safari on Windows, and the OS X desktop if you like, but the name just adds complexity, raising unnecessary questions. It would be much more in keeping for it to be labelled "Browser" or even "Webpages". It doesn't tell the user that this is how you use the World Wide Web. So I think that seeing a compass icon called "Safari" presumes a degree of product awareness that goes against the rest of Apple's OS design. The compass motif is a bad choice because your device also has map and navigation functionality, as well as a dedicated Compass app. I would have been thinking more jungle vines and animals or something. The idea of going somewhere, OK maybe, but it isn't represented in the icon unless you want to stress the importance of a compass when on walkabout. There is nothing "Safari" about Safari's icon, or indeed the app at all. iTunes has a big musical note on the icon, but I've never thought that the App Store & Game Center icons were particularly great - although the GC icon was somewhat representative before, it's definitely got worse. I wouldn't expect iTunes to go anywhere but otherwise their properties are named simply and descriptively: "App Store" and "Game Center". iChat has gone (although FaceTime is still a brand) as has iMessage - it's just Messages now. The simplicity and minimalism of Apple's design approach covers their naming and they are not afraid of retiring branded products. Looking at the app icons together you can see that they are mostly unbranded and functionally named, such as "Maps" & "Stocks". I increasingly think that the presentation of Safari is all wrong on iOS. This subreddit is not endorsed or sponsored by Apple Inc. If you'd like to view their content together, click here. The first options is quite comfortable if you can do it through the graphical user interface. There are 2 ways of converting the files using the Bink Converter, the first option is to do it graphically using the GUI and the other way is to do it through the command line. Those tools are the only thing you need to do in order to convert a BIK file into multiple formats. Once the installation finishes, you will find the executables at the default directory C:\Program Files (x86)\RADVideo (if you didn't change it): You will find an installer namely radtools.exe, proceed with the installation in Windows as you would do with any wizard. On their official website, you need to download RADTools.7z and extract its content in some directory. The first thing you need to do is to download the official Rad Game Tools kit from the official website of Rad Game Tools here. In this short article, I will explain to you how to easily convert Bink Video files (BIK) to MP4, AVI or WMV in Windows using RAD Video Tools. Then I found that Rad Game Tools, the developers of the Bink Video Codec offers a free tool to do exactly what I needed. After some research, I found out it wasn't that easy to convert it specially when you don't want to install a complex trial software that promises that it will convert the file to any video format but at the end I had to pay to unlock the codec. After installing and testing I wanted to extract videos and images of the game in the installation directory, however the content was in this (new for me) BIK format that was unplayable without the RAD Video player and wanted to convert them to a regular format that I can share with anyone nowadays (MP4). In the last days I decided to play one of my favorites videogames of all time (Bioshock 2) once again with a new video card (RTX 2060 Super) to see how it performed. That's when Bink came out to the rescue with a very flexible and working library, making it easy to developers to display videos in windows or render into textures. This of course was prone to errors, and added hundreds of programmers hours in development and debugging time that maybe wasn't that critical for the game. Years ago, deciding to add video playback to a crossplatform game engine was a nightmare because you had to study the API for each platform, figure out the format that they use, test it and trying to configure the optimum ratio between video quality and video size (this was quite important when games were played directly from the game disc). Bink has been the standard for video in video games since it was published due to its excelent performance, support and reliability. Between the adventure work I should have a chance to look at ammunition issues this month as well. Over in fortress mode, Putnam's almost ready with a menu to review old reports and announcements and is working on making filterable-sortable lists more consistent. This will be a long process, but it'll be fun to watch it come together, and we'll be able to update regularly on our progress there now that adventure work has finally begun. As with fortress mode, the game already exists, but now we need to work through the interface for every possible action and event, as well as creating the sound landscape with our new audio engineers. The update to SDL2 was the most important change for ports, so Linux and Mac versions are much closer now.Īdventure mode work is underway! I have an adventurer running around in the graphical play area. It's off by default until we get some more testing done on the experimental branch, but the speed gains are significant, so it will be available in the settings as well. The update of the engine from SDL to SDL2 is stable, and there will also be a multithreading option. We're going to start by getting the experimental branch moved over to the main line. Here's the June report and the Future of the Fortress reply.Hopefully that'll be ready to go soon! Not much to add to the last log, everything moving forward a bit at a time. Now available at Steam and itch.io! Signed types can store negative values, whereas unsigned types cannot. Integer types have both signed and unsigned modes. Notice that a char can only store values down to a minimum of -128 and up to a maximum of 127.īut there is another “mode” of the char integer type that only stores non-negative integers: Let’s consider the integer types in the C programming language, assuming bit sizes that we might expect on a typical 圆4 machine.Ī char consumes 8 bits of memory, meaning that it can store the following values: The more bits that an integer type consumes, the greater the values that can be stored therein. That means the set of all integers can be represented with the following number line:Ĭommonly, a programming language has several integer variable types – each one stores a range of integer values depending on the number of bits that type uses on a particular machine. Integers do not include fractions or decimals. In mathematics, integers include positive numbers like 1, 2, and 3, the number 0, and negative numbers like −1, −2, and −3. Let’s look a little more deeply at how computers store and handle numbers to see how elusive an integer overflow can be. In the 2021 CWE Top 25 Most Dangerous Software Weaknesses list, which looked at around 32,500 CVEs published in 20, integer overflow or wraparound ranked in twelfth place.Īre software developers so mathematically challenged that they can’t anticipate when they might be running out of numbers? The reality is more complex, in fact. So why did Microsoft need to pretend updates for its Exchange antimalware component were still from 2021? Why does a plane need to be turned off and back on just so it doesn’t crash? In both cases, the blame fell squarely on an integer overflow, a vulnerability that is a concern in all types of software, ranging from video games to GPS systems to aeronautics. The solution to avoid pilots losing control of their airliner midair? Reboot your 787 before 248 days are up, or better, apply the patch. Had it not been spotted and squashed in time, the bug could have led to a total loss of all AC electrical power, even in midflight, on the aircraft after 248 days of continuous power. So unless you are writing those routines for an operating system, a compiler, etc., you should always use standard date APIs.īack in 2015, a bug of similar ilk was found to affect the software of Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner jet. Yet the real lesson for developers is that implementing your own date-handling code is too fraught with the risk of making such mistakes and coming up with strange fixes that would use fictional dates. Microsoft’s fix? Set the date on malware detection updates back to the fictional December 33 rd, 2021, giving the date value enough “ breathing space” before reaching the highest value the underlying integer type can hold. Put simply, a bug subsequently dubbed Y2K22 (named in the style of the Y2K bug that spooked the world starting about a quarter century ago) caused the software to be unable to handle the date format for the year 2022. Here’s what happens when a number gets “too big”.įor many people in the IT community, 2022 got off to a bad start after a bug in on-premises versions of Microsoft Exchange Server caused emails to become stuck en route due to a failed date check. Individuals with family or roommates who like to hog the living room TV can make it an alternative display for playing their standard PS4 or PS5 games. One exceptionally cool feature of the PSVR is its cinematic mode. It can make your standard games and apps more immersive Most importantly, users can simply use their PlayStation controller for input too. Playing Gran Turismo Sport with both a VR headset and steering wheel is arguably the best immersive sim-racing experience available on any VR platform. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in VR is an even more horrifying experience than playing in front of a television. Star Wars: Squadrons, Hitman 3, Gran Turismo Sport and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard can be played almost entirely in VR. On top of the platform’s dedicated VR titles, there are also several traditional PS4 games that have special VR modes packed in. There’s a bit of something for everyone here, though the majority of the VR games available skew toward more gaming enthusiasts than the more mainstream Meta Quest 2. If you’re looking to get your fitness on, you’ll enjoy titles like BoxVR and Beat Saber. The PSVR also features its fair share of multi-platform games such as Superhot VR, Werewolves Within, Arizona Sunshine or the phenomenal The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners. Though many games don’t utilize it, the best input device available for the PSVR is the Aim controller when it comes to first-person-shooters. Various movements feel great on the Move controller and accessing the buttons never felt strenuous, even during long VR sessions. Like the multiple LEDs on the PSVR headset itself, there’s also a singular LED bulb that communicates with the PS camera for tracking. The wand-like Move controllers are comfortable to hold, and the button positioning is intuitive. Audiophiles looking for richer audio can also plug in their earbuds, headphones or gaming headset of choice. It’s a nice touch that keeps the design uniform and prevents your headphones from dangling or getting in the way during gaming. On the band is a 3.5mm headset jack with cutouts to hold the included earbuds in place. However, prolonged usage over the years has led to a bit of decay on the cushions on my unit. The cushions on both the forehead and behind the head are comfortable. This allows users to push and pull the headset toward or away from their face by holding a button on top of the faceplate while tightening it with a dial on the band’s rear. Instead of using a strap like most VR headsets, the PSVR features a circular band that sits on top of the head. There’s a good balance of weight all around that makes it easy to freely move your head. 2 pounds heavier than the Meta Quest 2 while feeling just as light during operation. Once in operation, the PSVR provides a cool light show between the headset and Move Controller LEDs - especially if people watch while someone is playing in the dark.Ĭompared to other VR devices from Meta, HTC and HP, the PSVR is one of the most comfortable for a handful of reasons. The visual aesthetic of the headset really looks wonderful once the LED sensor lights up. There’s a sleek rounded design that goes well with its black and white colorway. Visually, the PS4 was the clear design inspiration for the PSVR. Pre-orders went fast, so hopefully launch day will bear better fruit for those hoping to dive into next gen on day one.Your CNN account Log in to your CNN account It's a little weird for Sony to handle the PSVR compatibility this way, but at the very least the adapter is free for those that have this gen's camera.Īs for the system itself, PlayStation 5 officially arrives on November 12. If you want to play PSVR, PS4 titles included, on your new PS5, you're going to need to keep your PS4 camera. You’ll need to use the PS Camera (for PS4), and the PS Camera adaptor (no purchase required), to use PS VR on PS5. Also, the PS5 HD Camera is not compatible with PS VR on PS5. Please note that playing PS VR games on a PS5 console requires a PS VR headset, DualShock 4 wireless controller or PlayStation Move controller(s), and PS Camera (for PS4), which are sold separately from the PS5 console. When metal was needed for war, companies reverted to dry food, which was still primarily meat based. Steller says for about 20 years prior to World War II, dog food was primarily meat based and in cans. Steller says overall any canine is susceptible to the condition. While these bigger dogs have had more issues with DCM, Dr. Other dog breeds that have DCM issues include: She says Golden Retrievers are overrepresented with DCM cases and are a dog breed known to have problems metabolizing taurine. Julie Steller, a faculty member at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, says some dog breeds may have more taurine-deficiency issues than others, but that research may be inconclusive. Your veterinarian will give you the exact dose your dog should take and recommend the best supplement brand. However, this should only be done under the recommendation of your veterinarian as you don’t want to oversupplement your dog. These come in powders, liquids or tablets. You can also get the amino acid taurine in a nutritional supplement specifically made for dogs. Your best bet is to feed a diet that keeps your canine lean and healthy. Hill also urges dog owners to not pick food with the lowest protein content (unless your dog requires very few calories recommended by your veterinarian). So how do you know if your pet’s food is complete and balanced? It’s usually clearly marked on pet food packaging. Your dog also gets taurine from the meat protein in his diet, and from eggs and seafood in his food. The American Association of Feed Control Officials and National Research Council have a minimum recommendation for methionine and cysteine in dog food. Taurine is not required in dog diets because pups can get it by getting enough methionine and cysteine in their food. This includes amino acids methionine and cysteine that automatically generate taurine. Hill says a complete diet is one that contains all the essential nutrients to maintain a normal body weight or growth. Like with humans, the main source of taurine for dogs is in their regular complete and balanced diet. He says the important thing for dog owners to know is that your pet’s diet must be complete and balanced. Most don’t need a special diet, unless recommended by a veterinarian. Richard Hill, a board-certified veterinary nutritionist at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine, recommends a standard diet for all healthy dogs. Wondering if your dog needs a special dog food with taurine? Dr. Taurine is a sulfur-based amino acid that is one of the building blocks of protein, which is critical to your dog’s cardiovascular system, brain, eyes and immune system.
SDL2DIR environment variable, you need to add appropriate PATHS options to your call: find_path(SDL2_INCLUDE_DIR_1 "begin_code.h" PATH_SUFFIXES "SDL2" PATHS ENV SDL2DIR) This way works perfectly in case of local installation of SDL2, if that installation is hinted for CMake with CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH variable. Will fill the variable SDL2_INCLUDE_DIR_1 with the directory containing the header begin_code.h. # Possibly, this is subdirectory 'SDL2' of a "normal" include directory.įind_path(SDL2_INCLUDE_DIR_1 "begin_code.h" PATH_SUFFIXES "SDL2") that call: # Task for CMake: Find a directory with "begin_code.h" header in it. That form is expressed with command find_path, which is a natural way in CMake for search include directories.Į.g. Instead, you could reformulate your intentions into the form "find a directory with the given header". Isn't eliminating hard-coded paths half the point of cmake?ĬMake doesn't provide a way for a custom iteration over include directories. There are other valid places to put include files, so cmake should be able to search them. I've never seen a unix dev manually download header files and stick them in the system include path, for fear that they might be overwritten or otherwise conflict with a future install of an official headers package. Hard-coding the assumed path is only reliable for build systems that install SDL2 headers via some standard package manager. This question is my attempt to rephrase this unasnwered question for clarity.Įdit: I get that cmake is not responsible for fixing the issue, but cmake (or, rather, a CMakeList.txt file in my project) should be capable of working around this SDL bug. Does cmake make available the (system configuration dependent) -iquote path as an traversable list? It seems to me that all I need is to iterate on every dir on the -iquote path and, if it contains a directory name SDL2, add that directory to the -iquote. I want some future person who wants to compile my code with the SDL2 headers downloaded to ~/projects/headers/SDL2 to be able to compile after specifying only ~/projects/headers to their include path, for example, so they don't have to deal with SDLs internal issues. usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/SDL2/SDL_platform.h:179:10: fatal error: 'begin_code.h' file not foundĪdding -iquote /usr/include/SDL2 manually works in my case, but what about in build environments where the SDL2 headers were downloaded to some local directory? The point of cmake is to work with local configurations that vary, so adding a hard-coded single path based on platform would be dumb. In file included from /usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/SDL2/_real_SDL_config.h:33: In file included from /usr/include/SDL2/SDL_config.h:4: In file included from /usr/include/SDL2/SDL_stdinc.h:31: In file included from /usr/include/SDL2/SDL_main.h:25: In file included from /usr/include/SDL2/SDL.h:32: I do #include which the compiler does find, in /usr/include/SDL2/SDL.h on my system, but it then fails to find "begin_code.h" which is included several layers deeper in SDLs internal header code. Including the intended entry point header ends up failing because it links to other internal headers via quoted include without the directory name. I am working with a library that nominally stores its internal headers in a directory that is not itself on the include path, although its parent is. |
